Meal Time at Te Anau Homestay

Finding Family Vacation Accommodation Can Be Difficult

First of all there is the problem of finding a space which suits your family.
What we found is that there is usually no shortage of motel and hotel units, but they are too small for a group our size.

A whole house/apartment is an option, but you will be there on your own, there is usually no host available on site.

Sometimes it is worth paying for a separate room for the parents. (The children and or grandparents) in separate spaces.

We’ve experienced these difficulties family vacation accommodation as our three generations have traveled around New Zealand. To make matters more complicated, and sometimes other friends have traveled with us as well. So we have arranged Te Anau Homestay with those difficulties in mind.

Private Rooms Review (We have a 2.5 year old)

“If I could give 10 stars, I would! What a wonderful family experience.

We have a 2.5 year old. It was so nice to go somewhere that felt like home. We got to know Junko and Neil and their lovely family right away.
They are so warm and welcoming.

It was so fun to learn about their lives on the farm and get to experience farm life ourselves. The photos we have from their farm are amazing.

Our son loved the trampoline and goats. We especially loved the food. Definitely opt for the home cooked dinner–you won’t be disappointed. Junko was also amazing at helping us coordinate activities ahead of time. She helped me book two trips (Milford Sound and a Jet Boat Tour of Te Anu). We loved them both. Thank you again!!!”

Private Rooms Review (My kids didn’t want to leave)

“Our family had such a memorable evening at Junko and Neil’s with their family and farm animals.

We were welcomed with such great hospitality. The food was delicious and also thoughtfully bought locally so we could try foods from the region. Junko was very well educated on the area and farm life and willing to answer all our many questions.

They really go the extra mile and even let you help with milking the goats if you want. My kids didn’t want to leave.

This is a great way to experience New Zealand!” – Julie – Flagstaff, Arazona, USA.

Tiny Cabin Review (It’s small, but…)

“We LOVED our stay with Junko and Neil.

The cabin was perfect. It’s small, but it has everything we needed – a comfortable bed, a clean and organized space, a nice bathroom, samples of their homemade goat soap, and an incredible view. We thoroughly enjoyed eating dinner with the family and other guests.

Junko also packed us a delicious breakfast and made coffee before our trip to Milford Sound. Be sure to take Junko up on her offer to book tours.

She organized our Glow Worm tour in Te Anau and our Milford sound trip. Both trips were spectacular, and she gave us great tips for activities on our way to Milford Sound. We ended our stay with a farm tour, which included a chance to milk a goat.

We also bought plenty of goat milk soap to bring home as gifts. I would give more than 5 stars if possible. I hope to return again soon.”

Is Junko is Wonder Woman?

Some Air BnB hosts don’t have a lot to do with their guests. Many times I have seen reviews by other hosts written by people who have stayed at our house with the words, “I didn’t meet_________’s group, but…”

No matter how late you arrived, or how early you left, that has never happened at Te Anau Homestay.

Junko meets, greets, and serves every group that comes through on family vacation, which may have something to do with the fact that some people mistake Junko for Linda Carter (Wonder Woman)…

Private Rooms Review

“Junko is Wonder Woman. She is a mother of 8, entrepreneur (she makes some great goat milk soap), phenomenal cook, travel agent, and most especially an amazing AirBnB host. This might have been one of our favorite experiences in NZ. We highly recommend her place to anyone.”- Sunil, Charlotte, USA
