Majestic Milford Sound
Majestic Milford Sound is the highlight of many people’s visit to Fiordland. You could say that Te Anau serves visitors to Milford and businesses there.
How long will it take to get from Te Anau to Milford Sound?
Our guests sometimes ask us questions like, “Could you please advise whether I should book for both coach and cruise or only the cruise?
Not sure how much time it will take for self driving from your place to Milford.”
The short answer is that it normally takes between 2 and 2.5 hours for a family to go from our house to the car park, and 5-10 minutes for you to get out of your car, and walk into the terminal.
Some people, including ourselves, have driven there, without exceeding the speed limit, in 1 hour and 47 minutes (107 minutes), from Te Anau Homestay to Milford Sound terminal. The chances of a family not stopping for something like Mirror Lakes, Monkey Creek, toilet, or something along the way is very slim.
It is wise to assume you will take 3 hours including toilet and photo stops one way, and you may take hours the other way, as you explore the marvels of the Milford Road, including the amazing walk and view at “The Chasm”.
What will you do when you get there?
Take a boat cruise. (Click on the red square for more details).
